The Case for Direct Hiring in Healthcare and Skilled Trades

It would be easy to assume a platform built around searching profiles instead of posting jobs is mainly useful for software roles, where recruiters are used to sourcing candidates directly on other channels. In practice, some of the fastest growth we've seen on Kestrion has been in healthcare and the skilled trades — two fields job boards have historically served poorly.
Healthcare hiring is often urgent and highly specific: a hospital doesn't need "a nurse," it needs a registered nurse with a particular certification, available for a particular shift pattern, right now. Traditional job postings are slow to fill that kind of need because they wait for the right person to happen to see and apply to the listing. Searching a pool of real, current profiles for exactly that combination of credentials is a far better fit for how healthcare staffing actually works.
Skilled trades face a related but different problem: many of the most in-demand tradespeople — electricians, HVAC technicians, welders — aren't actively browsing job boards at all, because they're already working and aren't looking. Direct outreach based on a real profile reaches people who'd never have seen or responded to a posting, but who'll answer a specific, relevant message from a verified recruiter.
In both cases, the shared thread is that the traditional model assumes candidates are the ones doing the searching. When the candidates who matter most aren't searching — because they're busy working, or because the role is too specific for a generic listing to reach them — direct discovery isn't just a nicer experience, it's the only model that actually works.
We expect this pattern to hold in other industries with similar dynamics, and we're building our industry and job-title coverage with exactly that in mind.
